"Secrets" by Tim Winton On Monday 2st December 2013

On Monday 2st December 2013

I had a discourse approach in reading  class. The teacher thought about Narratives.
I learned story about secrets have 2 parts. "Secrets" by Tim Winton is about a young girl called Kylie who feels inadequate and lonely by her mother's lack of care and love and the missing father figure in her life. I think it interested and rather difficult.

This is a summary part one.
Kylie felt left out from her mother and Philip's activities.  She became interested in the chickens in the yard.  Somehow her secret helps her to feel less lonely. She finds a second egg and then found out where the others were being laid by an unhealthy-looking hen, she likes to sit on the fence, sharing the secret with hen. When she moved into the house, she was forbidden to life lid. Some afternoons she sat out under the grapevines with her photo album, turning pages and looking across every now and then and missed her father.

This is a summary part two.
Two weeks passed, Kylie watches the hen sitting on ten eggs. She takes the lid off the well and starts to go down the well with her photo album every day. She watches Philip and her mother then he hits her. Kylie hits the hen and throws it down the well. She chooses on special photo which makes her feel good then she cuts off her head from the special photo and threw it away f the window.

Here are some sentence about the three people in this story.
1.    I dislike Kylie because she rather psychosis  and kill the hen.
2.    I dislike her mother because she loves her husband more the her daughter
3.    I dislike Philip because he hits Kylie and vie for the love of her mother.

I think the most  important  are…
Neglect :  Kylie's mother doesn't care her and made her feel left out of the family because Kylie's mother had a new husband.
Loneliness : Her mother loves Philip more Kylie, so She likes to be alone, because no one cares for her.
Problems associated with contemporary family life : Family is important to take care and look after their children. When there are problems, they should consult discussed. So they cannot be a problem.

The story symbols.
·       The eggs be compared as her friends when she lonely heartache.
·       The well be compared as the special places of Kylie.
·       The photos be compared as Memories of her past, she misses.
·       Kylie's cutting of the photo be compared as feeling that she does not understand her mother and she did not want to be part of the family.

If you were Kylie what did you do.
I find activities to do such as reading, listening to music and talking to the family as possible.

Week 4 narratives

On Sunday 1st December 2013

I had a discourse approach in reading  class. The teacher thought about Narratives. It's the basic purpose of narratives is to entertain, i.e. To gain and hold the reader's interest in a story. But Narratives may also seek to teach or infrom, to embody the writer's reflections on expreience, and - perhaps most important - to nourish and extend the reader's imagination. I think it interested and rather difficult. But i try to be the best. :)
